Searching for an Open Position

Applying for a Job
To apply for a position with HEB, click on the title of the job that you wish to apply for. From the job description page, click the “apply online” button.
You will need to first create an account on the HEB website before you can proceed. Once registered, you can move on to the application, which starts by asking you to upload your resume.
The next section includes your personal information followed by some basic eligibility questions such as your right to work in the US and your age.
Next, you will need to fill in your work experience, education history, and any certifications that you have earned.

Add Additional Certifications If You Have Any
If you have any additional certifications or licenses, include them in the correct section. While you do not have to have certifications for all positions, if you have one that fits into a specific position, let the company know.
For example, if you have a meat handler’s license, this would be good to include and may qualify you for additional positions.
Don’t Lie about Your Background
The application asks about your criminal background and gives you the opportunity to explain things. Pay close attention and read the information being asked as you do not have to disclose every detail or offense.

There is a section on the application that allows you to discuss your availability. If you are unable to work certain days or shifts, it is recommended that you explain the reasoning in detail.
Your reasoning does not have to be anything specific, but you could let the manager know that you attend college classes on Monday and Wednesday afternoons so you would not be able to work those days, etc.
Should You Follow Up?
You can follow up on a job application by logging back into the account that you created when you first applied. Once logged in, you can view all positions you have applied to along with the status of the job.
In addition, you can call the specific location that you applied to and speak directly with the hiring manager. Before you call, make sure that you have let a couple of days pass so that the manager can review your application submission.
When you do call, ask to speak directly with the person in charge of hiring. If he or she is unavailable at the time, ask when a better time to call back would be.

- Bagger – The Bagger is responsible for placing all of a customer’s items into a paper or plastic bag and then helping the customer to his or her car. As a Bagger, you can expect to make between $8 and $10 per hour.
- Department Clerk – The Department Clerk will provide quality service to customers in his or her assigned department. As a Department Clerk, you can expect to make between $11 and $15 per hour.
- Pharmacy Technician – The Pharmacy Technician will help the Pharmacist in filling prescriptions and will answer customer inquiries. As a Pharmacy Technician, you can expect to make between $13 and $16 per hour.
- Pharmacist – The Pharmacist is responsible for filling all customers’ prescriptions and confirming with the insurance that the prescription is covered. As a Pharmacist, you can expect to make between $120,000 and $140,000 per year.
- Assistant Store Director – The Assistant Store Director helps the Store Director and also draws up reports about the store’s inventory losses, and profits. As an Assistant Store Director, you can expect to make between $50,000 and $60,000 per year.
- Department Manager – The Department Manager is responsible for making sure his or her department runs smoothly and provides superior customer service and the best products. As a Department Manager, you can expect to make between $50,000 and $60,000 per year.
- Store Director – The Store Director is responsible for making sure all employees are meeting their goals and performing up to the company’s standards. He or she will provide additional training as needed. As a Store Director, you can expect to make between $55,000 and $65,000 per year.

The Stocker is responsible for keeping all of the store’s shelves and planograms stocked with products. He or she will also go around the store and fix items that are tipped over or facing the wrong direction.
In addition, you will help keep the store clean, perform maintenance checks, and always ensure the highest standard of product is offered.
The Bagger is responsible for placing all of the scanned items into bags based on the customers’ choice of plastic or paper. He or she will place the customers’ items into the customers’ cart and then help the customer to his or her car when needed.
The Bagger will also conduct price checks as needed, re-stock the bags at the front of the register, and perform light housekeeping duties to keep the checkout aisles clean.
The Department Clerk is responsible for working in his or her assigned department including, but not limited to the bakery, produce section, dairy, meat counter, deli, and more.
In your role, you will weigh, slice, and package products as needed and per the customers’ requests. You will also provide superior customer service and take all custom orders in person and over the phone.
The Pharmacy Technician is responsible for assisting the Pharmacist fill prescriptions and verify insurance. He or she will discuss the risks and side effects of the medication with the customer and complete payment transactions.
The Pharmacy Technician will also help customers find health products throughout the store and answer any related questions.
In a management position, you will be responsible for overseeing employees who are under your supervision. You will need to be able to lead by example and provide help when needed.
The Pharmacist is responsible for filling all customers’ prescriptions in a timely manner. He or she will call doctors’ offices to confirm prescriptions and handle all insurance claims for the medications.
The Pharmacist will work within all federal and local laws and regulations for dispensing medications and narcotics. It is up to the Pharmacist to also let customers know when a medication may cause risks or side effects.
The Department Manager is responsible for overseeing all activities in his or her assigned department. You will make sure that all food and products are up to par and in quality condition.
You will provide weekly reviews of your department’s production along with cost and profit projections for your area. You will need to control all product order information, inventory, and deliveries.
Assistant Store Director
The Assistant Store Director is responsible for making all employee-related decisions that arise amongst the store. He or she will also help with recruiting, hiring, and training of all new and current employees.
The Assistant Store Director will ensure that all federal and local laws and regulations are followed and that the store is in good condition. He or she is also responsible for providing direction and guidance to all employees who need help.
The Store Director is responsible for leading all employees by example and conducting audits in each department to ensure employees are following all company policies and procedures.
In addition, you will be responsible for tracking the store’s profits, losses, and inventory information. The Store Director will communicate with the Regional and District Managers to arrange trainings and set new goals for the store’s success.
